I'm Kent Hastings, amateur radio callsign WA6ZFY and GMRS callsign WRFT486. My maildrop address is currently in Pahrump, NV. I may be moving my maildrop to an expat-friendly service in South Dakota to facilitate physically moving offshore, perhaps to the Dominican Republic. Don't worry, the DR and other prospective destinations have ham radio clubs. I'll update the mailing address here first, and eventually with the FCC and QRZ.com

My undisclosed residence is in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was active in Pahrump ham clubs before moving back to my old house in Chico, California. I joined the GEARS club in Chico and even served as their President for a term. Currently, I'm a member of the Vegas LVRAC club.
I built this site to help off-grid campers and radio ops deploy fast and operate comfortably. I test gear with a simple standard: does it set up quickly, survive real use, and play nicely with a mobile station?
Expect practical checklists, honest notes when I've owned a product or have seen it used by a fellow ham operator, and if not, my comment could be nothing more than "This useful looking thing seems to be popular on Amazon with good reviews." In other words, curated Amazon picks. Sometimes I'll link to another website if Amazon doesn't have a product I want to talk about. Signalink and FT817ND, both items I've owned, aren't on Amazon as I write this, but that could change or maybe they're just well hidden.
Again, if you buy through most of the links here, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you — it helps keep the lights on for more field tests.
